Activated Alumina
Activated alumina is manufactured from aluminium hydroxide by dehydroxylating it in a way that produces a highly porous material; this material can have a surface area significantly over 200 square meters/g. The compound is used as a desiccant (to keep things dry by absorbing water from the air) and as a filter of fluoride, arsenic and selenium in drinking water. It is made of aluminium oxide (alumina; Al2O3), the same chemical substance as sapphire and rubies (but without the impurities that give those gems their color). It has a very high surface-area-to-weight ratio. That means it has a lot of very small pores, almost like tunnels, that run throughout it.
White sphere or pellet, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, insoluble in water and alcohol, regular in particle size. Smooth at surface, with high mechanical strength and strong adsorption of moisture, not expanding and cracking after adsorbing water, original shape kept. Activated alumina has much micro-paths, so the specific surface is large. It can be used as absorbent desiccant and catalyst carrier. At the same time, it is confirmed by the polarity of attracting material. It is close to water, oxide material, acid, alkali, and it is a deep desiccant for micro water, and also a adsorbent for polar molecule. It is like anion exchange resin when It removes fluorine. It has high efficiency for absorbing fluorine and has steady volume, each cubic meter of activated aluminum oxide can absorb fluorine about 6400kg. it has high hardness, lower wear rage, never become soft when it is soaked by water, never swollen, never chalking nor breaking. It can be widely used in oil cracked gas. It is also a kind of trace water desiccant and the pole-molecular absorbent, according to the absorbed molecular polarization, the attachment force is strong for water, oxide, acetic acid, alkali etc. 1. 1. Used for reclaiming degradation product in the working fluid in hydrogen peroxide production by Anthraquinone method, especially in the plants of palladium catalyst and three-component nickel catalyst, there is no other better method for degradation except activated alumina, this kind of special absorbers, which is indispensable to hydrogen peroxide production.
2. Used for deep drying of gas or liquid phase of petrochemicals and adsorption drying by automatic instruments.
3. Used as defluorination in production of alkylbenzene or fordefuorainting in drinking water. It has been used by some home factories and approved that it accords with the technology demands perfectly.
